Honest question. I can barely remember the first plot, let alone what any of them said or did, but I do remember being surprised at the fact Jaxian... is a thing. Can someone explain because I... don't really get it. How did they meet? What do they have in common? Why are they/how did they get together? I kept reading about how they love each other so, so much, we're so in love trust me you guys, etc, etc and I'm like 'Pumpkin Grinch and Science Gremlin? How? Why? Really?'. I see Jaxon as 'refined aristo who cares about manners and decorum' and Ian as 'sloppy idiot science man who is rude and likes monsters'. They don't seem very compatible to me. Then again I ship Hattercrow for B:TAS and they never actually interacted on screen...

EDIT: Clarification? Correction? I see Jaxon as 'stuffy, snobby aristo who cares about manners and decorum to the point of being very rude (ironically)' and Ian as 'sloppy idiot-at-everything-but-science man who is rude and likes monsters'.

That's not a very nice thing to say about Ian :v

I dunno, spooky stuff and science are my favorite things; they seem like compatible interests to me. I can see them being very content to hang out in their haunted mansion and create terrifyingly adorable monsters together.

I'm not really like a relationship analyst or whatever though so whatever, I pretty much just accept these things at face value heh.

Uh... okay? Not to a jerk or anything, but you definitely sound biased towards one and against the other here... Totally ignoring the 'idiot' part (Where did that come from? :(), Ian never struck me as rude? Awkward, yes, but not allover rude. Jaxon tends to be more abrasive than Ian is. Jaxon may be a fancy boy but he def doesn't care that much about manners.

"Mercifully, I am only forced to experience the intense joy of your presence in my patch one month of the year."

The infamous Jaxon Skelly gained celebrity when one particularly dark Morostide, he decided to open his private and rather overgrown Pumpkin Patch to the public. Ever since then, Jaxon has found that he is unable to find a moment&;s peace, and much to his disgust, he has fallen prey to Subeta&;s merchandise conglomerates, being immortalized in the form of a reasonably top quality plushie. You can almost sense Master Skelly&;s revulsion at his newfound popularity, just by glancing at this plushie&;s somewhat intense scowl of loathing.

Pfft, as if Jaxon would actually sell you any seeds.

Grumpbutt.
Meanwhile Ian is described in his Subetapedia as such:
Quote
Doctor Ian Asmodeus seems at first sight a peculiar match for the Darkside, a brilliant mind and an even temper lost in a sea of darkness and corruption. Ever at work within his laboratory, he splices both gene and molecule free of charge for anyone who passes by.
There's also this item, that describes him as "soft spoken": [item=Series No. 10499]

As for what they have in common... well, Ian mentions why in the 2014 plot:

Quote
He and I have a surprising amount in common, it was such a pleasure to discover. He does all his own work in the pumpkin patch, you see, and that includes items of a genetically modified persuasion. He makes the perfect assistant, and I the perfect assistant to him. His cold temperament is the panacea to my sometimes manic hyperfocus, my passion a perfect compliment to his methodical approach. It&;s a shame that we have such little time to work together each year, and it truly worries me that we may never get the opportunity again.
Ian also brought Jaxon's beloved childhood pet, Snowflaik, back to life. I imagine that endeared Ian to Jaxon greatly.

Anyway, if you can't remember the 2014 plot, you can read it here! :) Hope that helps.

Sorry, I meant more like 'I see Jaxon as 'stuffy, snobby aristo who cares about manners and decorum to the point of being very rude (ironically)' and Ian as 'sloppy idiot-at-everything-but-science man who is rude and likes monsters'.'

I read through the plot and Ian didn't seem soft-spoken at all. Or even-tempered. He was like 'Let's do this! Whoops, screwed up again. Haha, mad science! Also, I hate cute things, yuck.'. While Jaxon was all 'I'm so refined, polite, and better than you that I'm going to be very rude (because you deserve it)'. I don't know. I've been tired all day.

Hah. Fair enough.

I guess that might just be one of those bits of Subeta lore that has changed over time. Certainly he's less "soft spoken" and more... "doesn't know how to people." He's defo a butt at the start of the 2014 plot, but he's trying to cover the fact that he hecked up in the process of trying to help and he knows Jaxon doesn't want other people all up in his personal biz.

Quote
He trusted me. He trusted me and I let him down and now I&;ve told his secret to some stranger because I couldn&;t even repair the damage myself.
Also, he seems like he might be bipolar? He outright says he experiences "manic hyperfocus" sometimes.

Does Ian not like cute things? I thought that was Euclid.

Sometimes love is "weird" xD, and as outsiders, our perception of compatibility might be totally off in some cases. I mean, I do want to know more lore about the two for the sake of gossiping LOL, but yep, they seem to be a nice couple to me :P. disclaimer: the purpose of the gif is merely for the quote. I'm not comparing them.

Jaxon and Ian may not the kindest, most generous, selfless and lovingly fluff NPCs around subeta, but they most definitely are not evil and unlikable characters. (they're probably Lawful/Chaotic Neutral, if we're trying to put them in an alignment). The plots were a way to let us know more about them both, and honestly, I fell in love with both of them.

Ian is quite often lost in his own head. He may not be easy to understand, but he is incredibly passionate about the things he cares about. He'll go through great lengths to help his friends and that is admirable. (He is a dork.) Also, I do not know where did you get the idea that he doesn't like cute things.

Jaxon is mostly lost in time. All of his 'decorum and manners' are just due to the fact that he was raised in the past, by an aristocrat family and a very strict dad. He has this cold facade and will use fancy words, but that's just how he was raised. He also has a wicked sense of humor, but he never means to hurt anyone. Like Ian, he cares deeply about his friends. He values logic over emotion which probably helps build this 'cold' image. (He's just a bit like.. a tsundere kind-of guy? hehe)

If anything, subeta is trying to teach us people are complex beings. No one is completely good or bad and your first impression of someone may not be what they truly are. The thing is, if you stop getting to know people because of your first impressions, it may ruin your chances of becoming friends with some awesome people. (or liking awesome npcs, in this case asdbjhsdbjba)

This isn't anything about explaining the relationship, but I think it's nice to see two people support each others hobbies even if they don't enjoy it themselves. I think while it's important to have common ground, it's important to have your own space. But they also support each other's passions as well.

Plus there's the appeal of opposites attract. People like that.

Actually more details on how they met it isn't posted on subeta, but on one of the staff artist's tumblr-- I would love to see it actually somewhere on subeta, but hey!
